WHAT IS REIKI?

Reiki (ray key) is a
Japanese healing technique that was developed in the late 1800's in
Japan by Mikao Usui, a devout Buddhist. Dr. Usui wanted to know
how to perform the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual healings
that he read about in religious texts. In his years of study and
searching, he founded the Usui Reiki Ryoho System of Natural Healing.
‘Rei’ means universal and ‘Ki’ means life force energy. It is
based on the premise that “life force energy” flows through us and keeps
us alive. If our life force energy is low, we are more likely to
become ill or stressed. If it is high, we are more likely to be
happy and healthy.
WHAT
HAPPENS IN A REIKI SESSION?
In a Reiki session,
the “universal life force” healing energy flows into the Reiki
practitioner, and she acts as a vehicle by passing this energy in to the
client via her hands. This energy may be passed by touching,
‘laying on’ of hands, or working in the individual’s auric field (a few
inches above the physical body). The client remains dressed while
receiving a Reiki treatment and typically lies on a massage table.
A Reiki session usually lasts about an hour.
Long distance
healing is also available through the use of a surrogate. The Reiki
practitioner will place her hands on the body of the surrogate and focus
on directing the healing energies to the desired recipient of them.
This technique is amazingly effective.
HOW IS REIKI HELPFUL?
In general, a Reiki
treatment restores balance and harmony to the client, bringing about a
sense of well being. It is a natural and holistic alternative
therapy that promotes health and relaxation.
Reiki incorporates a
holistic approach involving the physical, mental, emotional, and
spiritual. In other words, if something manifests itself
physically, there usually are also components on the emotional, mental,
and spiritual levels. Reiki attempts to heal the client at all
levels.

HOW DO YOU BECOME A REIKI MASTER?
Reiki can be learned
by anyone regardless of one’s personal philosophy or spiritual belief
system. There are three levels or “Degrees” to learn. Each
level involves receiving an attunement from the Master Teacher, learning
hand positions and techniques for healing, and learning the use of the
powerful Reiki symbols.
Principles of Reiki
Dr. Usui developed
these ideals as guidelines for his students to live by and practice.
He knew that Reiki was about healing others and creating the best
environment for them to heal themselves. Dr. Usui believed that
living these principles promoted healing and awareness on many levels.
1.
JUST FOR TODAY, DO NOT ANGER;
2.
JUST FOR TODAY, DO NOT WORRY;
3.
HONOR YOUR PARENTS, TEACHERS AND ELDERS;
4.
EARN YOUR LIVING HONESTLY;
5.
SHOW GRATITUDE TO EVERY LIVING THING.
